When do I sign-up?

You can sign up anytime you want. The start-up fee will be charged upon the home visit. You will only be charged weekly fees once we start the weekly deliveries.

Generally we recommend that you sign up for the diaper service about a month before your due date for a first diaper delivery two or three weeks before. With the diapers delivered ahead of the due date, they are ready and available for when the baby arrives. Just call us when your baby arrives and we will start the weekly service.

Will I get my diapers in time for when baby arrives?

We will deliver your diapers 2-3 weeks before your expected due date so you will be ready for when baby arrives. Just call us when your baby arrives and we will start the weekly service.

How do I get a BabyAuric hooded towel?

You receive a BabyAuric hooded towel when you pre-pay for the first twelve weeks of service. We also run regular draws with our clients for hooded towels and other goodies.

Diapers & Pails

What do the diapers look like?

BabyAuric supplies a flat, rectangular shaped diaper called a Pre-Fold. Using a Pre-Fold diaper is extremely convenient when you secure it with our fitted Velcro diaper cover. Using fitted diaper covers to hold the diapers in place instead of old fashioned diaper pins brings modern convenience to the age old tradition.

How do i fold the diapers? Is it difficult?

For new customers it can be difficult to imagine how a fitted diaper cover with Velcro will hold a rectangular shaped diaper without Velcro in place. Please have a look at the following diaper folding instructions to get a better idea of how it works.

Will I ever run out of diapers?

You will never run out of clean diapers. BabyAuric will adjust the delivery quantities to ensure you and your baby’s needs are met.

How do I launder the diaper covers?

The cover can sometimes get dirty or wet and need washing. Washing them in our hospital grade process would damage the covers unnecessarily. For this reason, we ask you to wash them with your regular wash.

Washing instructions: close Velcro tabs, warm wash, gentle dry and no bleach.

When do we change sizes?

With your input we will gauge the right time to transition baby to the next size diaper.
Generally, a first change in diaper size will occur when baby is around 15lbs.

Newborn babies will start out with ‘newborn’ (4-9lbs) or ‘small’ (8-16lbs) size covers. Covers are available for all babies ranging in size from 4 to 50 lbs (2 to 22kg).  Our catalogue includes models ranging in price from $9.50 to $13.00 each.

What if my baby needs more absorbency?

There are a variety of options for cotton-diapered babies that need extra absorbency.  Some examples: using a liner in addition to the prefold, using 2 prefolds for overnight protection.  Please contact us at 514 483-AURIC and we will provide whatever baby needs; such customised solutions are integral to the BabyAuric Diaper Service.

How often do I need to change the diapers?

Ideally, baby should be changed as soon as possible after you know he/she has wet or soiled.  Although cotton diapers are breathable, it is especially important to change baby after he/she has soiled, as certain bacteria grow rapidly in feces and can quickly produce a red, irritated bottom.

A newborn will require at least 10 changes per day.  Wetting tends to be less frequent as baby gets older.

Do I need to dispose of solid materials in the toilet?

No. There is no dumping or scraping any waste into the toilet. Once baby’s poops are less runny, we recommend the use of biodegradable liners.  These inexpensive, flushable liners help contain mess and minimise odours.

What does the pail look like?

BabyAuric's diaper pail is 14 gallons and large enough to hold a week's worth of diapers. It is lined with our pail liner and has an area in the lid in which to place a carbon filter for odor control. It is white and has clamps to hold the lid in place for nosy dogs or busy toddlers. The plastic pail is square shaped and approximately 21" tall to the top of the lid, and 15" x15" across. Click here to see a picture of the pail.

Can I get a second diaper pail?

Call us at 514-483-AURIC if you need a second diaper pail for the cottage or another room.

Does the pail smell?

The pail has an area in the lid in which to place a carbon filter for odor control. Of course, when opening the pail near the end of your delivery cycle, there will be some odor, but you will become an expert at closing the lid at lightning speed.

What if I have no use for the pail at the end of the service?

When the diaper service is no longer required, you may choose to return the pail for a credit of $10.  BabyAuric encourages reuse and recycling.

Deliveries

Can I choose my delivery day?

A delivery day will be assigned to you. In the future, you may be able to select from different days, but for logistical reasons, at present there is only one day per territory.

What if I forget to put out the soiled diapers?

You will always have clean diapers weekly. If you miss the driver on your set delivery day, he will leave your clean diapers behind regardless. The dirty diapers, however, do need to be washed and, for hygienic reasons, cannot sit in their bag for an additional week.

There are 2 options for a missed pick-up:

  • The driver will come back the next delivery day for an additional fee of between $10 - $20 based on your delivery area.
  • Drop off the diapers yourself at one of our convenient drop-off points.

Simply call us at 514-483-AURIC and we will arrange it together.

Can I pick-up and deliver the diapers myself?

This can be arranged. Call us at 514-483-AURIC to discuss the options.

Do you deliver to my area?

We want to serve everyone we can in Montreal and the surrounding cities. Please call us at 514-483-AURIC to find out about availability of the service in your area.

What if I go on vacation?

If there is no pick-up/drop-off, there is no charge. If you want to bring your diapers with you for a short period, we can arrange it. Please advise us two weeks in advance when you plan to be away and we can help you with all your vacation needs.

Washing Process

What is your washing process?

We have 13 stages of washing and rinsing using very high temperatures (up to 160 degrees).   Alongside a biodegradable detergent, we have chosen to use bleach in our washing process, as it is the best guarantee against all bacteria.  However, we use a chlorine neutraliser to ensure that the run-off water is inert, and we perform multiple rinses to ensure that all traces are removed from the diapers.

Furthermore, we use a softener to maximise baby’s comfort and we monitor the pH of the diapers to match baby’s skin, thereby preventing rashes.

Is the waste water harmful to the environment?

Alongside a biodegradable detergent, we have chosen to use bleach in our washing process, as it is the best guarantee against all bacteria.  However, we use a chlorine neutraliser to ensure that the run-off water is inert and therefore not harmful to the environment.

Can I be assured of absolute cleanliness?

At temperatures as high as 160 degrees and with the use of bleach, any and all germs are killed. 100%.  Furthermore, our industrial laundry, with decades of experience washing hospital products, has a very stringent quality control process and must meet Health Canada standards.

The Skinny On Cotton Diapers

Is it truly better for the environment?

See the diaper facts section for some more information regarding this question. Overall, we believe there is no question that using a cotton diaper service is the best diapering option for the environment.

Is it truly better for my baby?

See the diaper facts section for some more information regarding this question. Studies have shown that cotton diapered babies get fewer rashes and toilet train earlier, and that baby boys have lower scrotal temperatures.

Can I launder my own diapers?

You can certainly opt to wash your own diapers. Call us and we can get you started and point you to some helpful resources.

What about the water used for washing cotton diapers?

The main argument against cotton diapers is the water and energy used in washing them. While this is a valid concern, industrial washing through a diaper service uses less water per diaper then home laundering. Also, the waste water produced from washing our diapers is benign as we use a chlorine neutraliser, while the waste water from the manufacture of the pulp, paper, and plastics used in disposable diapers contains dioxins, solvents, sludge, and heavy metals.
